Free Initial Consultation - What to Expect & What to Bring

The first step to obtaining your bankruptcy discharge is to schedule an appointment for an initial consultation. At this first visit we will discuss your situation and determine if bankruptcy is a good option for you. We will also discuss any non-bankruptcy options that may appear appropriate in your situation, and we will discuss the costs and fees involved in filing.

Please plan on bringing the following documents with you to your first appointment (if a husband and wife will be filing together, please bring the following for both of you):

Even if you are unable to bring all of these documents, we can still advise you on what options are available to you. The documents are necessary before we actually file your case; however, we can discuss your options without them. Completing the Financial Analysis Form will speed up the process of your first consultation.

There is no charge for your initial consultation and you are not obligated to hire us to file your bankruptcy case. You do not need to bring any money with you. However, if you know you are going to file a bankruptcy case, it will speed up the filing of your case if you bring at least $210.00 with you to cover certain expenses including the costs of your credit counseling, debtor education and credit check. You will receive a credit of $210 against any fees/expenses to be paid in your case.

Fees in a Chapter 7 case must be paid, in full, before we file your case. Most of our Chapter 7 fees range from $1000 to $1200. These fees are comparable to those charged by other lawyers in our area. Fees may be higher in complex Chapter 7 cases. The costs, including court costs, for a Chapter 7 case are approximatley $430. This money is paid in addition to your attorney fee.

Fees in most Chapter 13 cases range from $2100 to $2500. In many cases, your attorney fee can be paid as part of your Chapter 13 case. Prior to the filing of your case, we ask that you pay a minimum of $250. The $250 covers expenses including your pre-bankruptcy counseling, your post bankruptcy debtor education, and your credit check. Depending on the complexity of your case, a larger prepaid fee may be requested. We will work with you to arrive at a fee that is fair and within your ability to pay. Chapter 13 fees must be approved by the Bankruptcy Court and the fees we charge are comparable to those charged by other attorneys practicing in our area.

We look forward to meeting with you and developing a plan that will help you resolve your financial problems. When you arrive at our office, you will meet with an attorney. Our attorneys take the time to get to know you and your financial situation. You will never be handed off to a secretary or paralegal. We believe that your case is important and our attorneys spend the time necessary to help you understand your options and the benefits that you will receive by the filing of a case. You will be given as much time as needed for you to ask all of your questions. You will never be made to feel bad about your situation. We are here to help you resolve your financial problems.
