We are a family practice, and we like to service the legal needs of our client families. Toward that end, we provide services in family law, divorce, estate planning, probate, and related areas.
Estate Planning
No one likes to think about death, but it is important to plan for it. Drawing up a will is an act of kindness to your loved ones. It can eliminate confusion and prevent discord.
Having a will is not just for retirees and senior citizens. A family with young children must make provision for those children in the event that the parents both die. We can help you to plan for all eventualities, so that you and your family will have peace of mind.
Probate
When a person dies, their property passes to their heirs at law or their beneficiaries under a will. This is accomplished through the probate process, or the administration of the estate. In probate, the court oversees the collection of the decedent's property, the payment of creditors, and the final distribution of the net estate to those entitled to receive.
When the time arrives, we are ready to help you probate your loved one's estate.
Family Law and Divorce
Family law covers a broad range of services. It includes divorce, modification and enforcement of divorce court orders, and adoptions (private, stepparent, Department of Human Resources, and foreign adoptions).
Divorce and bankruptcy often go hand in hand. At times, couples must declare bankruptcy while they are in the throes of a divorce proceeding.
If you are contemplating divorce, it helps to have a friendly, supportive, experienced lawyer on your side.
Related Matters
There are a number of other ways in which we can help you and your family. We can prepare a durable healthcare power of attorney, so that your designated loved one can make medical decisions for you when you are no longer able to. We can prepare a durable power of attorney so that you can designate someone to handle your financial matters when you are incapacitated.
